πŸ“– Synopsis

Tragedy brought them together, but love bound them into a family.

Clark and Marty Davis, the pioneer couple thrown together after the death of their first spouses, now preside over a growing number of youngsters in their prairie home. Together they face the joys and trials of life on a homesteader's farm.

Will they be able to find a suitable teacher for the long-awaited new school? Is the "very learned" Eastern preacher going to be able to communicate with the simple people of the West? And how do Clark and Marty guide their lovely daughter, now grown to womanhood, in her choice of a partner?

πŸ’ My thoughts

Having read this second book just a couple years ago, I remembered it a bit more than the first one. However, I still really enjoyed it and again thought it was very sweet and wholesome. I can't say I love the pacing of this series (this book particularly covered multiple years and is only around 200 pages, so it feels a little jumpy here and there), and how one or two events are handled/viewed, but honestly, the stories are so sweet and heartwarming and faith-filled that I can look past my minor squabbles with them. Overall, this was a really good one and I'm greatly looking forward to continue to reread the series and get to the later ones I've actually never read before!

⚠️ Content

A nightmare on page; a dog dies of old age (no details); illness, stroke, & multiple deaths (of adults and a baby boy); severe injury & blood; pregnancy, labor, & giving birth (x2 or 3, semi-descriptive); mentions of girls not needing education; mentions of children a mother had lost; prejudice against "the Indians"; no "language" besides "sakes alive", "my land", "Oh, God!", and "be hanged".
